The 2019-20 Cyclones had big shoes to fill after the success of last year’s squad. Even though they saw a different finale, they continued the program’s winning ways, earned honors and maintained a high-level competitive edge.
Of all 31 games the Cyclones played this season, there was none they fought more for than their last one of the season — the NJCAA Midwest A District Championship.
For the third time in four years, the Cyclones (22-8) are in a familiar spot — one more game from the national tournament — after winning their NJCAA Region IV semifinal game 71-59 over College of Lake County (19-11).
This was the way the Cyclones wanted to start their playoff run — strong and dominant. The women (21-8) took on the visiting Kishwaukee College Kougars (6-20) and won 83-49 in the NJCAA Region IV quarterfinals tonight.
On a special night celebrating the sophomores, the Cyclones faced the McHenry County College Scots, which came into this game undefeated. Unlike their previous encounter, Moraine Valley kept the game close even while taking the 81-73 loss.
The Cyclones are comfortable at home, evidenced by their 28th consecutive home victory. They went 81-60 over the visiting College of Lake County Lancers.
There was quick turnaround with better results as the Cyclones went back to work and added another win to their record. They went 87-50 over neighbor, Trinity Christian College JV.
The Cyclones nine-game win streak was halted tonight after a tough 76-61 loss to Rock Valley College. Despite the defeat, Moraine Valley is headed into the second half of the season with a 10-4 overall record.
After 20 years, and counting, leading the Moraine Valley women’s basketball program has led Head Coach Delwyn Jones to work with young athletes from all backgrounds, creeds and skill levels. Several of them came back Dec. 17 to celebrate the coach’s milestone, play some ball and reminisce.
