Extra grit yields win

Extra grit yields win

Another night, another victory. There was nothing easy about the Cyclones' latest 81-66 win over Malcolm X College, but sprung from a group effort.

This was another roughly played game that saw extra grit from the Cyclones. Moraine Valley scored the first bucket of the night, but Malcolm X responded with a 3-pointer for the one-point lead. However, the Cyclones jumped ahead and stayed there the rest of the night, but not without pushback from the Hawks. The first quarter found the Cyclones up 19-14. The second quarter lead grew to 14, but the Hawks battled to get within 10 at the half (41-31). Malcolm X's 8-0 run to start the third quarter stunned the Cyclones as they were reduced to a two-point lead. A Natalia Trejo bucket secured the run as Moraine Valley pulled away for good, building a larger double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.

Kirsten Kamholz led again on offense with 17 buckets and grabbed nine rebounds. Chelsea Cross came up with 16 hard-earned points as she attacked the basket. Erin Greenfield added 12 points while Kaeli Ford tacked on a season-high 12 points and six rebounds. Nicole Poole led with 12 rebounds.
