In the battle of two undefeated teams, this was the match to determine who would reign supreme over the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. The Cyclones came out ahead of the McHenry County College Scots 6-3.
Last year, the Scots bested the Cyclones by the same score to give them their lone loss of the regular season. This was the revenge Moraine Valley had been working toward to reclaim the crown (which they had last in 2022).
"They definitely needed this win out of all the wins we've gotten so far. We turned the tables on the reigning champs, and that's going to give us momentum moving forward," said Head Coach Matt Marusarz. "I couldn't be more proud of these athletes."
This wasn't a quick and simple victory, as Breanne Schultz, Allyson English and Zaina Daghash each fought through long three-set tiebreakers. English came back from a big deficit to secure the win at No. 3 singles.
With conference matches complete, Maya Morris was named Skyway Player of the Year, and Marusarz was named Skyway Coach of the Year.
The Cyclones have one more region matchup with Illinois Valley Community College on Oct. 1 before hosting the NJCAA Region 4 Championship Oct. 11-12.
