Cyclones push to the end

Four tiebreakers and several close matches demonstrated the drive the Cyclones had in their faceoff with Waubonsee Community College. However, they fell 6-3 to the Chiefs.

Most of the matches were close, in particular the four tiebreakers. Victoria Maratea at No. 2 singles lost her first set 5-7 before bouncing back 6-3 and 10-7. Olivia Preston, at No. 5, lost 1-6 then won 6-3 before a tough 8-10 defeat. At No. 1 doubles, Hannah Markiewicz and Maratea battled through a 6-3 winning set before dropping the other two 1-6 and 5-10. The final tiebreaker was a win for No. 2 doubles pair Trisha Meyers and Amanda Hess, as they won 6-4 then were shut out 0-6 before a huge 10-6 comeback victory. The other winner for the Cyclones was a battle from Nada Hinnawi at No. 6 singles (7-6, 7-5).

Even though it was a loss, the team maintained a positive attitude and outlook. "They played their best games so far despite the loss. They all played hard and never gave up. This team is amazing at keeping positive and light even when the match was over. They knew they gave it their best effort. I'm proud of how we did," said Head Coach Matt Marusarz. "I'm excited to see how we look at regionals when it really counts."
