All heart in loss

All heart in loss

This Cyclone squad has a lot of heart, and put it on display in a tough defeat at the hands of the visiting College of Lake County Lancers. The Cyclones lost 9-0.

Throughout each set, the players pushed and fought, some into three-set tiebreakers. Both Victoria Maratea at No. 2 singles and Olivia Preston at No. 5 singles, had the extra long play. Maratea battled through a 2-6, 7-3, 8-10 matchup while Preston went 7-5, 3-6, 5-10. Hannah Markiewicz battled through a 2-6, 5-7 loss at the No. 1 spot, and Trisha Meyers also kept things close at No. 3 (4-6, 5-7).

Even though it was a sweep by the Lancers, Head Coach Matt Marusarz was happy with his team's performance. "These players never gave up when every match was down to the wire. I've never been prouder of them," he said. "We are going to be a dangerous team when we get into our groove. We definitely have a solid core, and they're hungry to win, so this will motivate them."
