Two runners PR at nationals

Two out of four Cyclones runners earned PRs over the rolling 8K course at the NJCAA Division II Championship at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia.

"The men did a great job. This was the largest field any of them had ever raced against," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas.

Among the crowded field of 315 runners from across the country, Santana Garcia crossed the line first for the Cyclones in 124th place in 28:15. Coming in after him was Joel Vargas-Cortes (135th, 28:23), Andrew Sima (146th, 28:29) and Noah Rigoni-Kreczmer (224th, 30:01).

"The national race always starts off really fast, and Santana and Joel were forced into a faster start than I would have liked, but they held on to earn brand new PR's. Andrew and Noah started off a bit more controlled and ended up passing 32 and 26 people, respectively," Dimizas said. "I'm proud of how they handled themselves and am glad Joel, Andrew and Noah were able to end their Cyclones career on the biggest stage. I know this opened up Santana's eyes and made him hungry for more, so I'm really excited to see him make bigger strides next year."
