Every Cyclone earns PR at Gil Dodds Invite

In one of the largest fields of runners they've faced so far this season, every runner on the men's team set a PR for the 8K at the Gil Dodds Invite at St. James Farm in Warrenville, IL. The team placed 16th out of 18 colleges and universities and was the only community college in the competition.

"We had all 10 men race for the first time this season. This race was much larger than the previous two, and the course was faster. We expected fast times and that's what happened with everyone setting a season or lifetime PR," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas.

Andrew Sima broke 28 minutes for the first time, which has been a goal since the end of last season. He crossed the line in 27:55.40 for 111th place out of 299 runners. "I am happy he got there and excited to see just how fast he'll get," Dimizas said.

Santana Garcia ran his first 8K, finishing in 28:53.20 in 157th place followed by Demario Angarita in 29:35.50 in 190th, his best performance as a Cyclone.

Noah Rigoni-Kreczmer crossed in 30:17.50 in 207th while Joel Vargas-Cortes finished in 30:37.20 in 219th. "Noah is still recovering from being sick, and Joel had an incident early on in the race which affected him, so even though both ran well, we all know they have a lot more to show in these next few weeks," Dimizas added.

Brennan Rudolph (31:09.30, 237th) and Jacob Madera (32:07.40, 256th) continue to improve and become more comfortable with the longer distances while Jesse Correa (33:31.70, 266th) put his speed work together for a four-minute PR from the last meet. Robert Slezak (35:23.30, 274th) set a lifetime PR with room to go even faster while Josue Trujillo (37:28.20, 286th) stayed strong throughout the race.

"The weather is looking cooler for our next meet, and it should provide some fast times," Dimizas said.

The Cyclones race next at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, IL.
