Cyclones fight through ugly run

Between a hot, sunny day and injured runners, the Cyclones fought for every step at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island.

"This was not a pretty meet. The heat took its toll, and the times reflect that," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "It was 90 and sunny on an unshaded golf course, so we knew the conditions weren't ideal, but I'm happy with how they raced."

The injury bug has hit the men's team the second half of the season – only three men ran this race. Jack Kajmowicz and Andrew Sima worked together early to not start too fast and conserve their energy for the later part of the race. The whole field appeared to start too fast, and most runners either drastically slowed down or dropped out. Kajmowicz finished in 29:51.2 for 52nd place while Sima came across the line in 31:09.4 in 78th place, and Demario Angarita ran in 37:39.0 in 115th.

"The times won't show it, but Jack moved up the entire time and kept passing people until the end. Andrew fell back a bit but still finished strong. Demario is coming back after some time off but still showed the toughness we expect from him," Dimizas noted.
