Cyclones stick to plan at PNW Classic

In their second race, and first 8K of the season, the Cyclone men took third place at the PNW Cross Country Classic at Purdue University.

The Cyclones had their work cut out as the lone community college among runners from seven four-year universities, of which three had enough for complete teams. But they held their own. The men were asked to pair up for the first mile and start more conservatively than the last race, primarily because they were jumping up to the 8K distance. Freshman Brandon Armendarez led the way as he finished in 19th place in 28:34 followed closely by Jackson Sima in 21st place in 29:16 and Thomas Diaz in 22nd place in 29:27. Also crossing the line was Gavin Hampton in 26th place in 30:07, Scott Beveridge in 33rd place in 31:57 and Nicholas Cunico in 35th place in 33:18.

"They ran really well. They were in pairs for the first half and then did their best to get faster as the race progressed. They executed that plan to perfection, which I'm proud of them for. The rest of the race was about working together and competing, and they did a good job with that," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "We're still not at full strength, but we're getting there. I'm optimistic that everyone should be able to race this upcoming weekend."
