Shoddy weather can't keep Cyclones down in Peoria

Between the cold, rain, snow, mud and hills, the men's cross country team was able to finish 11th out of 13 teams at the Bradley Pink Classic on the Newman Golf Course in Peoria yesterday.

Considering all the conditions, the men ran well. David Alvarez crossed the line first for the Cyclones in 20th place in 26:58, earning a PR. John Donovan followed him with a PR as well (53rd, 28:41). Also coming across the line were Ettore Gaytan (95th, 32:30), Isaiah Flores (99th, 33:16) and Justin George (100th, 33:20).

"I'm really proud of Alvarez and Donovan for their PRs," said head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "Over the next two weeks we're going to focus on getting everyone as healthy as possible, and then we're just going to toss them out of the nest and see how well they can fly. Six of our seven runners are sophomores, so the next race might be the last time they run together. I'm expecting them to use every kind of emotion to push themselves toward their best performance."
