The Cyclones experienced an all too familiar scenario in the Region 4 semifinals when they faced Elgin Community College, but were unfortunately on the losing end of the results.
When Moraine Valley faced Madison College on Sunday, the Cyclones defeated them in nearly the same way they lost to the Spartans. Most of this game saw a 0-0 score with both teams fighting for control. Rylan Decker made some huge saves in the net, but the Cyclones struggled to score, even off a penalty kick when they were fouled in the box. They had another near miss a few minutes later when the Spartans keeper dove for a save and the ball bounced back to the Cyclones who knocked the ball off the crossbar.
Ten minutes into the second half, Jose Aceves scored to help the Cyclones go up 1-0 after getting fouled. As both teams scrambled in the final minutes, a call was made 40 seconds before the end of the game that gave Elgin a penalty kick, which was shot to the left of a diving Decker to push the game into OT. A few minutes into the OT, Elgin was able to line another into the net for the 2-1 victory, ending the Cyclones' season. The Cyclones only had two losses this season, both to Elgin.
