Home opener yields big win

The summerlike day and high winds couldn't stop the scoring barrage of the Cyclones in their 5-1 victory over McHenry County College.

With fierce winds blowing in their favor toward their goal in the first half, the Cyclones put the Scots to task right out of the gate. They took control and attempted a shot within two minutes but hit the post. A minute later, Colin Kroll found the net with an assist from Michael Strama to put his team up 1-0. Three minutes after that, Declan Kelly passed one to Kroll, who scored again. The Scots' keeper was put to work as the Cyclones saw a corner kick go in by Abiel Herrera after nine minutes, putting the Cyclones up 3-0.
The Scots received a few yellow cards after the scoring stream and eventually gave Cyclone keeper, Andruw Martinez, some work. The offense continued working, but didn't score again until around 12 minutes when Piotr Prokop found an opportunity (assist from Fernando Barragan) with the Scots keeper far from the box. By halftime, the Cyclones led 4-0.

The second half was tighter from both sides with the Scots finding their rhythm and finally scoring on smooth passes at the 24-minute mark. Martinez doubled the amount of saves he had from the first half but nothing to make the Cyclones nervous. With eight minutes to go, Kelly had a breakaway run where he netted his team's final goal of the game.
