The wind was fierce, but the battle on the soccer field was fiery. The Cyclones faced an always tough Morton College, a team they shared a conference championship with last season, but fell 3-1 in their home opener.
Luck was not on their side as both teams were evenly matched. The Cyclones were up 1-0 within the first minute thanks to an own goal by the Panthers. Just before halftime, however, Morton evened the score off a corner kick. A number of Cyclone fouls allowed the Panthers more scoring advantages, which they capitalized on for two more goals in the second half. Around the 12-minute mark, Fernando Barragan slid one past the keeper, but was called off sides to halt the Cyclones' momentum.
This wasn't the finish the Cyclones wanted, but they have plenty more soccer to play this season.
