Silver equals gold in OT victory

Silver equals gold in OT victory

Drake Silver volleyed the golden goal in the 95th minute to edge the Cyclones past Carl Sandburg College in a 4-3 victory yesterday.

The Cyclones halted the Charger's five-game win streak in a game of ups, downs and plenty of mud. Both teams came out of the first half without a goal, but after halftime it was all offense.

The Chargers started the scoring in the 56th minute, but the Cyclones answered 10 minutes later on a goal from Hyoungwoo Kim. Sandburg scored again eight minutes later, but Vasili Vouris put his team ahead again with back-to-back goals on free kicks. A header from the Chargers equalized the score, pushing it into overtime, but not before some close calls. With two goalkeepers down with injuries, Karl Kosary spent the entire game in the net, saving seven including two penalty shots. Five minutes into overtime, Drake Silver scored the winner on a pass from Daniel Kasaggoma.

"The guys really stepped up under very difficult circumstances, and Karl did an awesome job for us," said head Coach TJ Donahue.
