Long day at Highland 36 to open season

The Cyclones opened their season at the Highland 36 Invitational in Freeport, Illinois, finishing in 14th place overall among 19 colleges.

This is always one of the toughest outings for the golfers because it's 36 holes out of the gate, and for three Cyclones it was their first collegiate event.

"The first college tournament is always tough, and playing 36 holes for the first one makes it even tougher. We learned what we need to work on for the next one," said Head Coach Matt Lovelace. "We beat College of Lake County by one, so that was fantastic. We also finished pretty close to our conference schools, so it should be another close race for the championship."

Newcomer Casey Taylor led the way with a 77 and 78, finishing 25th among 102 golfers. Coming in after him was Matthew Pawyza in 60th (82, 84), Sean Pickert in 84th (94, 85), Ryan Flynders in 87th (90, 90) and Sebastian Rak in 99th (95, 96).
