Getting a taste for the region course

Getting a taste for the region course

The Cyclones played back-to-back outings, getting their first taste of the Region IV tournament course as they competed in the Skyhawk Invitational at PrairieView Golf Club in Byron, IL. They placed seventh out of 10 teams.

Of all the courses they play on, this is the toughest. That in addition to higher winds and nerves pushed the Cyclone scores up slightly more than their best rounds the day before. Both sophomores, who played on this course last season, led the way. Randy Miller finished with 83 and Jack McDonald had 85. Following them was Michael Smeraldo (88), Ryan Krell (92) and Noah Holstrom (103).

"This was more of a scouting trip because this is the regional course, and we're trying to get the guys comfortable there before it really counts," said Head Coach Matt Lovelace. "It's a very scary course with long grass and out of bounds everywhere. They need to gain some comfort on the tee shots so next time they do better. We have one more match at this course prior to regionals to get ready."
