Region preview challenges Cyclones

Over the last few years, the Cyclones have typically seen wind, rain and all-around unpleasant weather at the NJCAA Region IV Preview. Today, they had a perfect day to compete at PrairieView Golf Club in Byron, IL, finishing the outing in ninth place out of 12 teams.

This season, the Cyclones have maintained a steady performance, even under adverse weather conditions. On this day, their nerves and an unfamiliar course for most of the team became factors in scoring a little higher than their season average. They finished with 352 on this tough track. Illinois Valley won the event with 314.

Paul Douglas was on his A-game, however, leading the team with an 81, just five strokes behind the winner. "Paul played well. If he can clean up some mistakes around the green, he will do very well at regionals," said Head Coach Matt Lovelace.

Marty Bennett came in next with an 89. Just behind him was Randy Miller with 91, Jack McDonald (91), Connor Finn (99) and Patrick Clifton (102).
