Cyclones wrap up season at regionals; several golfers earn honors

With a few surges and drops throughout the season, the Cyclones ended their run in the NJCAA Region IV tournament. They wanted to go further, but played well in conference and saw a few players earn accolades.

During the regular season, the Cyclones battled in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference matches, always vying for a second place finish with Oakton Community College. Their final conference match of the season would determine the overall runner-up, and the Cyclones delivered. Sophomore Paul Douglas (Peotone) also finished eighth overall, and freshman Marty Bennett (Evergreen Park) took 10th, for which they received medals. Bennett also just missed a chance for a placement medal at regionals, which turned out to be a rough outing for the team as they placed ninth.

"It was a pretty good year. The scores were not as good as I wanted in regionals, but we took second in conference and two guys got medals, which is good," said Head Coach Matt Lovelace, who completed his fourth year leading the program. "Paul did well in conference, averaging an 81. Marty was pretty solid this year, too. He'll work on things to improve, and we'll look for good things from him next season."

The lineup was tight this year with three sophomores and two freshmen, Bennett and Patrick Clifton (Sandburg), who should be back next fall.
