Cyclones dominate Rams in quarterfinals

Cyclones dominate Rams in quarterfinals

If the Cyclones (24-5) had the drive to move ahead in the playoffs, they showed it in their 88-69 over Wright College (12-19).

The last time these two met in November, the Cyclones only took a two-point victory. This time, they knew it determined if their season would end or not. The Rams were able to start the scoring and go on a run to take the lead for the first 10 minutes of the game. Then the Cyclones turned on the pressure. Anthony Taylor banked two free throws to tie the game at 16 before Javonte McKenzie sunk a three to take the lead from that point on. In a six-minute span, the Cyclones held the Rams to four points while increasing the gap. Moraine Valley was ahead 39-27 at halftime.

Although the Cyclones continued to lead throughout the second half, the Rams attempted a comeback, getting within seven. However, Taylor and Kobe Adams went on a scoring string to eliminate any chance for the Rams.

Taylor led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Enari Thomas collected 21 points while Adams added 18. McKenzie added 10 points. Trace Williams led with 11 assists.

The Cyclones continue on in the NJCAA Region IV semifinals on Sunday, March 5, 4 p.m., against Olive-Harvey College played at Rock Valley College.
