Coach Chappetto named Skyway Newcomer Coach of the Year

After his first successful season running the Cyclone men's basketball program, Head Coach John Chappetto was named Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Newcomer Coach of the Year.

This honor is given to a coach who has worked within the conference for less than two years. Chappetto was hired in spring 2019 and completed his first full year coaching at the community college level.

Chappetto ended the season with a 25-7 overall and 11-3 conference record as well as a co-conference championship. At the peak, the team was ranked 11th in the NJCAA Division II and knocked down a No. 3-ranked college.

"I knew when I hired Coach Chappetto that he would make a difference in our men's basketball program. We have high standards and a tradition of winning at Moraine Valley. He proved that this season. I know he will continue to uphold our winning ways and keep making us proud," said Bill Finn, Moraine Valley Athletics director.

"I'm excited to win an award like this. Winning is a reflection of the people of Moraine Valley. Our coaching staff, which includes Aaron Green and Kyle Huppe, are truly a great team. We are friends and love to help our players be their best. Plus, the incoming players and sophomores really bought into our plans from day one, and that was an important ingredient for our success," Chappetto said. "Our seamless transition into the community wouldn't be as smooth as it was without Bill Finn and his office – Mary Nagel, Mary Przybylski, General, Agnes and Geoff. They made it very easy for all of us to have a successful year."
