Cyclones take one from Panthers

Cyclones take one from Panthers

Perfect timing and a walk-off single helped the Cyclones take one from Morton College in the conference doubleheader.

GAME ONE
Some luck and good hitting at the right moment elevated the Cyclones over the Panthers 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After a big five-run inning in the third (including a homerun from Preston Lund), the Panthers battled back, and the Cyclones trailed 6-5 heading into their final at-bat. Andrew Phelan (2-for-3) started the inning with a single to centerfield before the next two batters hit into outs. Lucas Hicks drew a walk and Timothy O'Connell (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) hit a hard grounder causing the second baseman to fumble the ball and allow the tying run to score. In some team heroics, Troy Vosburgh (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) came up with the game winner after he hit a hard shot to left field.

Christian Rosales also had an RBI this game, going 1-for-2. Xavier Aguilar was the winning pitching, throwing a complete game with only two walks and eight strikeouts.

GAME TWO
The Cyclones didn't have the same comeback in the nightcap, falling 10-5.

The Panthers scored in every inning while Moraine Valley got one run across in their first at-bat after Phelan (2-for-4) scored off a ground-out by O'Connell. The rest of their runs came in the fourth when they came within one of the Panthers.

Alejandro Munoz (1-for-4) started with a double before Hicks (1-for-3, RBI) drove him home on a line drive to left field. Nicholas Haran and Rosales (1-for-3) each walked and Caston Norris (1-for-2, 2 RBIs) hit a two-run single. But that was it for the Cyclone offense.
