In an even battle with Oakton College, the Cyclones split the doubleheader at home.
GAME ONE
Although Xavier Aguilar struck out 12 batters this game, the Cyclones still lost 7-3.
The Cyclones started the scoring in the bottom of the first when Timothy O'Connell walked, Alejandro Munoz (2-for-4) singled and Troy Vosburgh (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) hit an RBI double. A pickoff attempt on Munoz at third base resulted in an error and another runner across the plate as the Cyclones led 2-0. However, a couple of solid hits for the Owls' next at-bat tied the game.
A few solid hits gave the Owls a lead before the Cyclones answered with their final run in the third. O'Connell walked and Munoz singled before Vosburgh hit a sac fly. Both teams were quiet at the plate for a couple innings after that until the Owls added to their lead with walks and some hits. Ryder Johnson also had two hits this game. Aguilar finished with 12 strikeouts and just three walks over seven innings.
GAME TWO
The Cyclones bounced back thanks to a six-run inning to win the nightcap 9-7.
All the Cyclone runs were scored in the second and third innings. With the Owls leading 2-0, the Cyclones started with a single from Aiden Radtke (3-for-4) and a double from Caston Norris (2-for-4, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs) before Christian Rosales grounded into a fielder's choice to score the first run. Mateo Velazquez (1-for-3) singled and Johnson (1-for-3, RBI) hit a grounder and got to first on a fielding error, loading the bases. Andrew Phelan (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBIs) was up with two outs and hit a line drive to right field, scoring two runs and helping the team take a 3-2 lead.
In their next at-bat, the Owls jumped ahead 5-3 after loading the bases from walks and getting hit by pitches before hitting a three-run double. However, the Cyclones came back the following inning. Munoz (2-for-4) and Radtke started with singles before Caston drove them both home on a two-run triple to tie the score. Rosales was hit by a pitch before Velazquez flew out. Johnson and Phelan hit consecutive RBI singles to go ahead 7-5. O'Connell hit a line drive and reached first on a error, which also scored two more runs.
Although the Owls scored a couple more runs, the Cyclones had the insurance to take the win. On the mound, Vosburgh struck out six and walked three while Norris struck out three and walked one to close the game.
