Big Cyclone hits in split with Snappers

Big Cyclone hits in split with Snappers

In their second matchup in as many days, the Cyclones split two with Spoon River College.

GAME ONE
This first game was a near repeat of their last one but with the Cyclones on the losing end. Moraine Valley got on the board first after Timothy O'Connell (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) tripled, and Christian Rosales drove him in on a ground out. Spoon River then tied in the bottom of the first. The Cyclones extended their lead 6-1 in their next at-bat with doubles from Aiden Radtke (1-for-2) and Seth McWilliams (2-for-4, 4 RBIs), a single from Alejandro Munoz (3-for-5, 3 RBIs), two walks and three batters hit by a pitch.

Each team battled back with two more runs apiece before the Snappers had a massive third inning to take the lead, 10-8. McWilliams tied the game again with a two-run homerun in the fourth before Andrew Phelan (2-for-4) singled, Ryder Johnson (1-for-3) walked, O'Connell bunted and Munoz grounded into a fielder's choice to go up 12-10.

The Cyclones added just one more run in the fifth when McWilliams grounded into a fielder's choice to score Lucas Hicks (1-for-2) who walked. The Snappers tied the game once again in the bottom of the seventh on a few hits, fielding errors and fielder's choices, pushing the game into extra innings. Too many walks and a perfect hit for the go-ahead run gave the Snappers the 14-13 win. Troy Vosburgh earned the loss in relief.

GAME TWO
The Cyclone bats were on fire in the nightcap. Once they scored in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead, they never let it go and held the Snappers down in a 15-4 victory.

One hit shy of the cycle, Preston Lund (4-for-5, 5 RBIs) had a solid day at the plate, starting with an RBI triple in his first at-bat and a grand slam in the seventh. Mateo Velazquez (1-for-4, RBI) had a triple in the seventh while Vosburgh (3-for-4, 3 RBIs) doubled in the sixth and Phelan (2-for-3, RBI) had two doubles.

The combined pitching efforts of Lucas Hicks, Maddox Reta and Zachary Koschnitzki helped shut down the Snappers.
