Tight battle with Wolves

Tight battle with Wolves

The Cyclones racked up some runs but not enough to defeat Joliet Junior College in the doubleheader.

GAME 1
Moraine Valley was able to keep things close with the Wolves in the first game, losing 5-3.

After Joliet scored two in the first inning, the Cyclones countered with two of their own with two out in the next at-bat. They loaded the bases with a single from Emmet Barry (1-for-4) and walks by Arnoldo Velazquez and Ayden Lasson (1-for-2). Niko Mastoras (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) lined a single to right field to score both runs.

The Cyclones scored again in the sixth after Christian Cardenas (1-for-2) singled, Lasson doubled and Christian Rosales (1-for-3, RBI) grounded out but scored the run. The Cyclone bats were quiet after that.

Starting on the bump this game was Xavier Aguilar, who allowed three runs and struck out four.

GAME 2
The Cyclones held a lead the first half of this game until one five-run inning by the Wolves, resulting in an 8-6 loss.

Both teams had seven hits this game, which was started in the Cyclones first at-bat. Cardenas (2-for-4) started with a double followed by Lasson with a single. Jack Hoh (1-for-2) walked to load the bases before Cardenas scored on a wild pitch. Dimitri Spatharakis then grounded out but was able to score Lasson (2-for-3, RBI). Nicholas Haran hit a sac fly to score Hoh and go up 3-0.

The Wolves didn't score until the third inning, but the Cyclones extended their lead in the following inning. With two outs, Jaylun Camper and Kevin Golinski walked before Cardenas hit an RBI single. Lasson came up next and scored two more runs with a single to right field to go up 6-1.

Moraine Valley continued to lead 6-2 after the Wolves tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth. Some Cyclone errors and Joliet hits saw the lead change hands in the fifth. The Cyclones could only muster a walk in their next offensive attempts.

Nate Pacetti started for the Cyclones, allowing three earned runs and striking out six while walking three.
