Cyclones split with Panthers

The wind was the star of the Cyclones' latest doubleheader with Olive-Harvey College, leading to big scoring and a split between the two.

GAME 1
The Cyclones won the first game 19-6, scoring in all but two innings. Jack Hoh (4-for-5, 2B, RBI) and Dimitri Spatharakis (3-for-3, 2B x3, 4 RBIs) started the scoring in their first at-bats. Both hit doubles with two outs and Spatharakis getting the RBI.

The next inning, Moraine Valley scored five runs with some solid hits from Christian Rosales (2-for-5, 4 RBIs) and Niko Mastoras (2-for-5, 2B x2, 4 RBIs). The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the second with three runs and scored their final three in the fourth inning.

The Cyclones tacked on nine more runs between the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by doubles from Spatharakis, Mastoras, Ethan Lopez (3-for-4, 2B x2, RBI) and Arnoldo Velazquez (1-for-4, 2B, RBI). It was the small ball that helped Moraine Valley add four more runs in the seventh while holding the Panthers for the big victory.

Xavier Aguilar (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) and Christian Cardenas (RBI) also collected RBIs this game. Nate Pacetti started on the bump and had six strikeouts while Carlos Guzman came in to close the game, allowing no runs.

GAME 2
The Panthers saw some payback in the next game in part to a 12-run fourth inning, dealing the Cyclones a 24-12 loss.

By the third inning, the Cyclones were down 4-0. Christian Cardenas (4-for-4, 4 RBIs) drove a line-drive single to center before Arnoldo Velazquez walked. Nicholas Haran (2-for-3, 6 RBIs) then came up with a big a homerun to centerfield to get his team on the board. In the bottom of that inning, the Panthers battled back with eight more runs. When the Cyclones came up to the plate, they got two runners on with a fielding error and walk before Cardenas hit a two-run double. Velazquez walked before Haran rocked his second consecutive three-run homerun, getting his team within four.

Walks and a string of hits saw the Panthers drive in 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 24-8. The Cyclones battled back with some hits, but it wasn't enough. Jaylun Camper (1-for-3) singled, Ayden Lasson (1-for-3) reached base on an error and Kevin Golinsky (1-for-2) singled to load the bases. When Augustus White (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) came up to bat, he knocked in two runners on a double to left. Cardenas did the same thing to get the Cyclones 12 runs.
