A close one

The Cyclones lost a narrow matchup with the University of Connecticut at Avery Point, falling 5-4 in the last inning.

Both teams kept things close, each scoring twice in the third inning before Moraine Valley went ahead 4-3 in the sixth. It was the Pointers' two runs in the bottom of the seventh that dealt the Cyclones this tough loss.

Walks helped the Cyclones earn their first two runs. After Arnoldo Velazquez and Christian Rosales singled, they each scored when Dimitri Spatharakis, Ethan Lopez and Nicholas Haran were walked consecutively. The Pointers had some lucky hits to tie the game in their next at-bat.

The Cyclones scored in the fifth and sixth innings when Spatharakis doubled and Lopez singled him in. Then, Rosales singled and stole second and was able to score on a fielding error. Leading 4-2, the Cyclones had some pitching and fielding errors that allowed two runs.
