Wild times against Lakers

Wild times against Lakers

In a wild, high-scoring nine-inning matchup with Lakeland Community College, the Cyclones lost 14-13 after some roller coaster innings.

The Cyclones started the scoring with three runs in the first thanks to singles by Niko Mastoras (1-for-2), Austin Zernia (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) and a double from Jack Hoh (2-for-5, RBI). A line out from Ethan Lopez (1-for-4, RBI) also scored a run. Meanwhile on the mound, Xavier Aguilar gave the Lakers trouble at the plate.

The Lakers walked in another run for the Cyclones in the next inning before they got their first run. Then Ayden Lasson (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) lined a double to right field to score Nicholas Haran (3-for-5, 2 RBIs), who doubled earlier in the third, to go up 5-1. Moraine Valley tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth after the Lakers walked two and Hoh, Lopez and Jayden Armstrong (2-for-6, 2 RBIs) singled. A sac fly in the sixth from Lasson gave the Cyclones a solid 9-1 lead while Aguilar continued to throw lights out, tallying nine strikeouts and allowing one run.

When relief pitchers went in for Aguilar, the Lakers slowly caught up. Kyle Diamantos (2-for-2, RBI) singled in another run in the seventh, giving his team the 10-4 edge. Walks and well-timed hits in the bottom of the seventh saw the Lakers take a 13-10 lead.

The Lakers scored one more in the next inning while the Cyclones attempted to fight back in their last at-bats. Jaylun Camper started the inning with a single to third. He stole second before Kevin Golinski got on from a fielding error. Diamantos advanced the runners with a single to right, and Haran scored two with a double to center field. Emmet Barry knocked in the final run after he grounded out and scored Diamantos, but it wasn't enough to claw back.
