Cyclones continue win streak with two last inning victories

The Cyclones earned their second sweep of the season, winning both in the final innings over Prairie State College.

Moraine Valley took a 2-0 lead in the top of third before the Pioneers added a run. Danzel Lucas (1-for-3) doubled to right field, and Christian Cardenas (1-for-3) reached on a dropped third strike before Jake Lisk (1-for-3) hit a sac fly to score one. The Cyclones scored again in the third on walks and stolen bases. By the fifth inning, the score was tied 2-2, and stayed that way into an extra eighth inning. With two outs, the Cyclone bats came alive. Arnoldo Velazquez (2-for-4) singled on a line drive to center field before Cardenas doubled him in to go up 3-2. Lisk then had an RBI double before Yashion Boswell (1-for-3) had a high pop fly single to score Lisk and keep the Cyclones ahead 5-2. With the Pioneers taking last bats, Nate Pacetti got three out of four batters to pop out to seal the Cyclones win. Gus Velazquez was the winning, starting pitcher, allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Although the Cyclones scored first in the second game, the Pioneers tied things up. It wasn't until the top of the seventh where the Cyclones' four-run stretch helped seal the 8-5 sweep. In the first inning, Jack Hoh (1-for-4) singled and William Miller (1-for-3) doubled before Maxwell Hensler (1-for-3) and Lucas each had sac flies to get the Cyclones up 2-0. The Cyclones scored again in the third off of singles and Pioneers errors. Prairie State added a run in the third and the Cyclones added another the next inning from an RBI single from Lisk (2-for-4). In the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers tied the game 4-4 after hitting two singles and getting four walks. It wasn't until the top of the seventh with two outs when the Cyclones had some luck yet again. Hoh got on from a Pioneer error bobbling his ground ball. Lucas was intentionally walked before Ben Cash (1-for-2) and Arnoldo Velazquez were walked to get the team up 5-4. Cardenas then reached first on an error from his ground ball and scored Lucas. Lisk knocked in the final run off a screaming line drive single. The Pioneers only added one run in the bottom of the inning for the Cyclones win. Cole Hermanson was the winning pitcher and Dane McDonald earned the save.
