Big hits not enough against Chaparrals

Big hits not enough against Chaparrals

The Cyclones were hanging with College of DuPage throughout both games, but were unable to hang on in the losses.

By the top of the second inning in the first game, the Cyclones went up 6-4 thanks to a barrage of hits. Maxwell Hensler (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) started the inning with a single before Peter Mitchell (1-for-2) walked and Nate Pacetti was hit by a pitch. Jake Cummins then hit a sac fly to right field to score Hensler. Jake Lisk (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) came to the plate and knocked a two-run double. Jack Hoh (1-for-3, RBI) also had a double to score Lisk and tie the score 4-4. Christian Cardenas hit a ground ball and reached base on an error, advancing Hoh to third. Danzel Lucas loaded the bases on a walk before Hensler came back to bat and lined a single to drive in Cardenas and Hoh and help his team take the lead 6-4. The Cyclones had more opportunities to score with bases loaded in the third and a triple from Daniel Rosado in the fourth, but were unable to capitalize on it. The Chaparrals put together a string of hits, including homeruns, to run the score up and deal the Cyclones a 16-6 loss.

For most of the second game, the Cyclones held a lead, thanks in part to a seven-run second inning. The Chaparrals scored first, but then the Cyclones had their own string of hits including singles from Ben Cash (1-for-3), Yashion Boswell (1-for-3), Cardenas (1-for-3), Rosado (2-for-4, RBI), Arnoldo Velazquez (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), and doubles from Lisk (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Hoh (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) in that inning. By the end of the fourth, the Chaparrals had tied things at 7-all. Moraine Valley countered the next inning with a single from Lisk before Hoh drove him in on a double to center field. The Chaparrals added three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth while the Cyclones offense slowed down in the latter innings, leading to the 11-8 loss.
