Cyclones end skid; split with Chiefs

After a long skid, the Cyclones battled Waubonsee Community College to a 9-8 victory before an 8-3 loss in the nightcap.

GAME 1
Although the Chiefs scored first off a walk and added three more runs in the second, the Cyclones added four runs of their own in the fourth inning. Maximus Bullock (2-for-2, 2B) and Gilberto Hernandez (1-for-3, 3 RBIs), who homered, each moved runners across the plate with RBIs. The game was tied at eight with the Cyclones batting in the bottom of the fifth when Bullock drew a walk to score the go-ahead run. Overall, the Cyclones amassed 11 hits to the Chiefs' 13 with Bullock, Robert Otero (2-for-3, 2 2B) and Winston Hill II (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBIs) each accumulating two.

Jack Riemen pitched to victory. He went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits and walking one. Cole Hermanson and Agustin Velazquez entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close in relief. Tim Roe started the game, going two innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out two.

GAME 2
Despite getting some big hits, the Cyclones were unable to stop the Chiefs' offense. The Chiefs scored in the first inning, but Moraine Valley evened things up at two in the bottom of the second after a two-run blast from Danzel Lucas (1-for-3). However, the Chiefs pulled away with a four-run third inning, and the Cyclones could only add one more run from Anthony Cappelletti (2-for-4, 2B).

Ryan Grand took the loss. He went two and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking one.
