Big hits not enough to surpass Panthers

Big hits not enough to surpass Panthers

The Cyclones collected some big hits in their latest doubleheader with Morton College, but some mishaps influenced the final results.

GAME 1
The Cyclones had 11 hits in this opening game. William Miller started the scoring in the first inning after knocking in a run off a ground out. He then drove in another run in the five-run fifth inning, as did Anthony Cappelletti and Gilberto Hernandez, who blasted a homerun. Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Cyclones held a 6-3 lead but the Panthers tied the score and earned the go-ahead run on an error. Moraine Valley lost 7-6.

Maximus Bullock (3-for-3) and Robert Warchol also had big hits in this game. Daccarius Chapman took the loss after throwing two and a third innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out three. Tim Roe started the game. He surrendered three runs on six hits over four innings, striking out two.

GAME 2
The Cyclones attempted to make a comeback in the nightcap but came up just short. The Panthers started the scoring and held the Cyclones off until the fifth inning when they finally got on the board. They earned five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, partly driven by a triple from Hernandez and a fielder's choice by Cappelletti. But it wasn't enough in the 8-6 loss.

Bullock had two more hits in this game along with Hernandez, Thomas Carlson and Samuel Rogers. Cole Hermanson took the loss, surrendering one run on zero hits over one inning, walking one.
