Two close games with Pioneers end in split

The Cyclones secured another split, this time an 8-7 loss and 5-3 win over Prairie State College.

GAME 1
This first game came down to the final at-bats after a comeback inning for the Cyclones. Although Moraine Valley scored first in the bottom of the third, the Pioneers found their offense in the fourth, scoring five runs. They scored one more in the fifth before the Cyclones charged back after Thomas Carlson (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) singled in one run. The Cyclones played small ball in the sixth with Maximus Bullock (4-for-5), William Miller (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) and Carlson each singling in runs and Gilberto Hernandez earning an RBI off a sacrifice fly. Leading 7-6 headed into the seventh inning, the Cyclones needed to hold off any Pioneers' offense. However, they were unable to stop the two runs from dealing them the loss.

Ryan Grand started for the Cyclones. The lefty went three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out five and walking one.

GAME 2
A couple of strong innings at the plate helped the Cyclones earn a 10-3 win over the Pioneers.

Prairie State jumped ahead 1-0 off a walk before the Cyclones scored two in the bottom of the second. By the fourth inning, the Pioneers had tied things at two when Robert Warchol (1-for-3, 3B, 3 RBIs) hit into a fielder's choice and scored one. Bullock singled on the first pitch to score one and a Pioneer error gave the Cyclones another run. The Pioneers scored one more in the fifth, but the Cyclones answered with four more runs by doubles from Samuel Rogers and Brian Funk, and an error on a ball put in play by Warchol.

Gavin Quinlan started on the mound. He surrendered one run on zero hits over one-third of an inning. Hernandez was the winning pitcher. He surrendered two runs on two hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Daniel Rosado threw two innings in relief.
