Cyclones fall to Trojans

The Cyclones collected nine hits in their matchup with Triton College, but they couldn't stop a last-inning jolt as they fell 8-6.

Moraine Valley opened up scoring in the first inning when Patrick Hayes hit a two-run single on the first pitch. The Cyclones continued scoring in the fifth and seventh innings and led 6-5 heading into the ninth. Hayes (2B, 2 RBIs, 4-for-4) and Anthony Cappelletti (2B, 2 RBIs, 2-for-5) led the offense. The Trojans tied the game at six in the top of the ninth and tacked on two more, but the Cyclones could not answer.

From the mound, Christopher Villafuerte started the game, going six innings and allowing three runs on three hits and striking out six. Byron Scholp took the loss, allowing five hits and five runs over two and a third innings while striking out six.
