A walkoff win in split with Panthers

A walkoff win in split with Panthers

For the second time this season, the Cyclones won a walkoff game with Morton College. They ultimately split the doubleheader with the Panthers.

The Panthers got on the board in the first on a homerun and added another in the third to which the Cyclones answered. They each added another run in the fifth with Andrew Tenison (4-for-4) knocking one in on a single. The Cyclones were down 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh and tied it 4-4. The clincher was with the bases loaded, Anthony Cappelletti was hit by a pitch to score the go-ahead run, giving the Cyclones the 5-4 victory.

Brendan Gill started the game, going five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking one. Byron Scholp earned the win. The hurler surrendered zero runs on one hit over one and two-thirds innings, walking one. Jonathan Runquist threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

After the momentous win, the Cyclones lost some steam in the nightcap, which ultimately was called for darkness. Moraine Valley surrendered two homeruns in the first inning and struggled to put their own runs on the board, losing the effort 9-1. Patrick Hayes, Christopher Villafuerte and Maximus Bullock each had one hit. Villafuerte also took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits over four innings but striking out three in the process.
