Cyclones take one back from Wolves

The Cyclones were finally able to be on the winning end of a late-scoring game, taking one back from the Joliet Junior College Wolves today. They won 13-7 with the help of three homeruns from Scott Richards and Andrew Tenison.

Things are starting to come together for the Cyclones. They stayed in this game to the end, even after trailing late in the game. Moraine Valley opened scoring with one run in the first inning on a Wolves' error. The Wolves scored three runs in the sixth inning on a home run. After a little vacillating offense from both teams, the Cyclones trailed 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning before Richards officially put his team ahead with a full-count two-run homerun. They tallied five more runs in the eighth inning thanks to offensive firepower from Alex Martinez, Anthony Cappelletti, John Gonsalves and Tenison, who all drove in runs. Tenison was on fire at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double in the second and eighth innings, and homerun in the third and fifth.

The Cyclones totaled 14 hits in this game. Tenison, Cappelletti, Maximus Bullock and Richards all managed multiple shots.

On the bump, Christopher Villafuerte started the game, surrendering five runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out four and walking none. Luke Bentley was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Byron Scholp threw two innings in relief.
