Ninth inning walk-off in season opening loss

Ninth inning walk-off in season opening loss

It's been nearly a year and the massive snow mounds have just about melted to allow the Cyclones to get on the field in their season opener. They faced neighbor Joliet Junior College but suffered a last inning 8-7 loss.

Moraine Valley collected seven hits and Joliet had 10 in the high-scoring affair. The Cyclones put up a good fight throughout the game, leading by four going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Some errors, solid hits by the Wolves and a walk-off walk hindered their opening day win. Moraine Valley hasn't been on an actual baseball field in about a year, so this was a big day, win or loss.

Chris Villafuerte led the charge with three hits in five at bats. Brett Renken toed the rubber for Moraine Valley, surrendering three runs on seven hits over five innings and striking out three without giving up any walks. Deven Jones and Jonathan Runquist entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one and one-third innings, respectively.
