Cyclones hang with Eagles

Facing last year's Region XI champions was no easy task, but the Cyclones put in one of their best performances all season, barely losing the first out of two games to Kirkwood Community College.

It was a pitching duel in the first game with Michael Dudek and Xavier Rosado holding the Eagles to five hits. The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning after Thomas Moran scored Kyel Alexander on a double, and Niles Gall had a gutsy home plate steal. However, that was the end of any runs for the Cyclones. The Eagles plated one in the third and sixth to edge out Moraine Valley 3-2.

The Cyclones' second loss saw one long eight-run inning to hinder their chances as they fell 12-2. Donato Albanese earned an RBI, and Antulio Esparza led the slim offense, going 2-for-3 with one run. Johnathan Runquist scored the other run. Robert Keating was charged with the loss after throwing two and two-thirds innings and striking out three.
