Scoring surge in Cyclone sweep

Scoring surge in Cyclone sweep

The last few games have been rough for the Cyclones, but they purged a losing stretch by sweeping the visiting Prairie State College Pioneers with 16 runs.

A six-run sixth inning, ignited by a few players, propelled the Cyclones to an 11-1 victory in the first game. A triple from Thomas Moran (3-for-4, 3 RBIs), double from Niles Gall (3-for-4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), single by Gerald Powell (1-for-2, RBI, 2 runs) and sac fly by Jake Peterka (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) helped drive the surge. Moran got his team on the board first in the first inning with a run-scoring single. The Cyclones collected 12 hits overall, which included some from Kyel Alexander (2-for-4, 2 runs), Gilbert Jaime-Baez (1-for-3, 2 runs) and Nate Villagomez (1-for-2, RBI). Timothy Dobrik held the Pioneers to seven hits and one run over six innings.

Richie Kiernicki threw a shutout in the Cyclones' 5-0 win, allowing just two hits and striking out 13 over five and a third innings. The Cyclone offense started early, plating two runs in the first inning, one off a Pioneer error. Of the team's 11 hits, Alexander (1-for-3, run) had a double while Powell (1-for-3) and Villagomez (2-for-3) earned RBIs.
