Cyclones finish 3-1 at Parkland Invitational

After a long two days playing some nationally ranked teams at the Parkland Invitational, the Cyclones ended the tournament 3-1.

Sept. 27
The Cyclones first faced off with NJCAA Division III No. 3 ranked Owens Community College. It was a solid battle, but the Cyclones came out ahead in three sets: 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. Ava Pequette collected 29 assists, Mary Zielinski had 17 kills and Sophia Davidson added 16 digs. Lily Avelar contributed 12 digs and nine kills while Cameron Szyszka had 10 digs.

In their second match of the day, the Cyclones ran out of gas against the NJCAA Division II No. 5 ranked Heartland Community College. Every set was too close for comfort with Moraine Valley falling in five: 27-25, 25-22, 25-27, 21-25, 10-15. This was their first loss of the season. Pequette led with 32 assists while Zielinski had 28 kills. Avelar and Davidson each added 18 digs while Keira Clancy collected three blocks.

Sept. 28
The Cyclones started their day with a match against Danville Area Community College, making quick work of the Jaguars: 25-15, 28-26, 25-21. Pequette finished with 39 assists and Zielinski had 28 kills. Avelar added 10 digs.

In a solid final matchup, the Cyclones played Lincoln Land Community College, which had earlier defeated two other nationally ranked colleges. However, the Cyclones played one of their best matches, winning in three: 25-18, 25-20, 25-16. Avelar finished with 10 digs, Pequette had 33 assists, Davidson had 11 digs, Zielinski collected 21 kills and Szyszka earned 12 digs.
