The Cyclones had a solid opening weekend at the OWT All-In Volleyball Tournament in Rockford, IL, winning all four matches, including defeating a nationally ranked team.
The tournament opened on Friday, Aug. 23, against North Iowa Area Community College. Although the Cyclones won 3-1, several sets were close (25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22). Mary Zielinski had a monster opening, collecting 30 kills and adding nine digs. Ava Pequette amassed 32 assists and seven aces while Sophia Davidson dug up 29. Lily Avelar added 19 digs, five kills and two aces.
In their second match of the day, the Cyclones handily defeated Edison State Community College 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-12). Zielinski added 21 kills, Avelar had 21 digs, Davidson had 17 digs and Pequette collected 26 assists. Cayla Neville earned a .800 hitting percentage this match.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Cyclones faced Southeastern Community College, going 3-0 in the matchup (25-14, 25-17, 25-16). Zielinski had 25 kills and five aces while Pequette finished with 36 assists and four aces. Avelar amassed 28 digs while Davidson and Cameron Szyszka each collected 14 digs.
In their final match of the tournament, the Cyclones faced Lansing Community College, which is ranked 20th in the NJCAA, and eked by them 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-19). Pequette led with 41 assists while Zielinski had 24 kills. Davidson dug up 22 while Avelar had 15 along with nine kills.
