Region runners-up for the mighty Cyclones

With heads down, the Cyclones trudged off the field last night, taking a rare second place finish in the NJCAA Region IV after losing the region final to College of Lake County 4-1.

The Cyclones aren't used to defeat, but were knocked out of their dominating place atop the region after five years. They allowed the first goal within two minutes of the start of the game and another after 13 minutes to a dominating Lancer offense. In the second half, the Cyclones pushed back and had more chances on goal, but their defense did most of the work in this game. After the Lancers scored two more, the Cyclones were finally able to capitalize on a corner kick as freshman Gisselle Almazan scored in the last three minutes of the game.

"The result is disappointing. What hurts more is the way we played and the effort that some of the players gave. I can accept losing, and I can handle the fact that we will not always be the best team, but it hurts that we will remember this season by this performance. That is not the team that was out there for the majority of the season," said Head Coach Al Palar. "I will miss the sophomores immensely, and I thanked them deeply for everything they've done for the program. I hope they learned and enjoyed their experience as a Cyclone. That's all I always hope for."
