Cyclones shut out rival Chiefs

Even with their top player having an off day, the Cyclones were able to shut down their conference rival Waubonsee Community College in a big 4-0 victory at home.

The Cyclones missed a few chances early, which could have come back to haunt them but didn't. Their first goal came off a Jen Latoza free-kick lofted over the keeper's hands. Abby Palumbo crossed a pass from Iris Cruz to Anna Kois, who scored the second goal with a one-touch finish to the corner. This gave the Cyclones a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw more of the same although the Chiefs applied more pressure. They had a few more shots on goal, which keeper Jocelyn Estrada easily saved. Allison Schaar's next shot attempt was deflected by the Chief's keeper straight into Kois' path for an easy finish and her second goal of the night. Latoza scored her second late in the game when she hit a shot from nearly half field that again flew over the keeper's hands.

"It was a good win for us. I don't think we were great today, but we were good enough to get the job done. I'm very happy about the three points we gained," said Head Coach Al Palar. "I'm really hoping we are able to get back some bodies soon. Only having 11 to 12 players today wasn't easy, and we have big games ahead."
