The Cyclones faced their first real test of the season Sept. 15 in a matchup with South Suburban College. Although the 6-1 victory looks like a blowout win, the Cyclones had to play solid ball.

In the first five minutes, the Cyclones scored three goals. The Bulldogs managed to get a goal back quickly, but Moraine Valley was an overpowering force and added two more before halftime. Of those five goals, freshman Mairead Ruane scored three. Late in the game, the Cyclones netted another goal for the finale. Karen Montoya, Yesenia Perez and Jasmine Quezada each scored for the Cyclones as well.

Battling a number of injuries, the Cyclones had a healthier lineup this game. Although the Bulldog's goal was the first one the Cyclones have given up in six games, the defense still held their ground against a talented offense and played hard.

"I'm very proud of the effort and execution from our team in a game like this. We knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we came out ready and were able to score early to put us in a good spot," said head Coach Al Palar. "South Suburban has some talented players, and we were able to keep them quiet for the most part throughout the game. This was a really good regional win for us going forward."
