Setbacks don't hamper Cyclone shutout

Between a flat tire on a long drive to Wisconsin in a thunderstorm and being down a few key players, the Cyclones were out of sorts Sept. 1. But that didn't stop them from shutting out Bryant and Stratton College.

According to head Coach Al Palar, there were few moments in this game where they played as well as they can. The Cyclones turned the ball over, struggled to complete passes consistently and couldn't finish chances. However, good teams always find a way to win even when they don't play well, and that is the essence of this team.

Anna Kois opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game with an assist from Iris Cruz, and Yesenia Perez followed up with two goals in the next 15 minutes (assists from Kois and Xochiquetzal Torres-Montez). Maribel Carmona recorded her first collegiate shutout in goal, and the Cyclones won 3-0. In the first two games of the season, the team has had eight different goal scorers, which demonstrates the versatility of this group.

"I'm very happy and lucky to be leaving with a 3-0 win after the way we played. We were very sloppy and never really connected the way I know we can. But a win is a win, and good teams always find a way to win. I want to just forget about this one and move on to the next one," Palar said.
