Survival of the fittest

The Cyclones made some ground in the final minutes of their matchup with McHenry County College, enough to earn the 58-56 victory.

Both teams suffered small rosters with injuries and foul outs becoming a problem at the end of the game. The Cyclones took a lead in the first quarter but were stunted on offense in the second, going down by five at halftime. The next 20 minutes, Moraine Valley crept back thanks in part to a number of free throws as well as three-pointers from Olivia Baxa. Down by three with 1:35 left on the clock, Baxa sunk a three to finally tie the game at 56. Sarah Burton was able to score the go-ahead basket at the minute mark and the team held off the Scots, who were down to three players on the court by the end.

Baxa led the offense with 19 points, 15 from three-pointers. Burton added 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Robin Stevenson collected 10 points and nine rebounds. Andrea Robertson grabbed 18 rebounds and had nine blocks for the night.
