Fourth quarter surge not enough

Fourth quarter surge not enough

Another slow start for the Cyclones finally caught up to them in a 65-58 loss to Triton College on the road.

Until this game, the Cyclones were undefeated in Region 4 play. They typically have slower starts to the game and catch up at the end, but they were unable to find their groove in the fourth quarter this time.

Both teams struggled to score early, but the Trojans acquired some rhythm and led 20-9 after the first quarter. The Cyclones' deficit continued into the second quarter, where they were down 39-22 at the half. The fourth quarter saw Moraine Valley down by 22 points with eight minutes left before they went on a scoring run. Deniza Fuentes led the charge with eight points and Robin Stevenson with seven to help get them within five. Back-to-back turnovers, however, thwarted the Cyclones' run and led to their loss.

Stevenson led with 24 points and nine rebounds. Fuentes finished with 15 points while Olivia Baxa collected 10 points.
