Last-second victory

Last-second victory

Moraine Valley eked out a 63-61 victory over College of DuPage in the final seconds.

This wasn't a pretty game, but still a notch in the win column. The Cyclones scored first on a three-pointer from Deniza Fuentes before the Chaparrals went on a short run to take the lead. DuPage actually led for most of the first half, at one point by as much as 10 points. However, the Cyclones fought back to get within one at halftime.

Moraine Valley was down most of the third quarter as well but only by a small margin. Neither team could run away with the score. In the final quarter, the lead vacillated until the Cyclones went up by four with one minute to go. The Chaparrals battled back again within one before Keyshia Armstrong was fouled with two seconds on the clock. She sunk one free throw for the two-point advantage, and Fuentes stole the ball to prevent DuPage from scoring.

Fuentes led with 26 points. Armstrong added 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Olivia Baxa finished with nine points, all three-pointers, including a clutch shot late in the game. Robin Stevenson led with 10 rebounds.
