Cyclones split at Dan Hull Memorial Classic

The Cyclones participated in the Dan Hull Memorial Classic this weekend at Triton College, going 1-1.

The first team they faced on Nov. 10 was Spoon River College. Moraine Valley jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and never saw a deficit. The Snappers battled back to cut the Cyclones' lead to four, however, the third quarter is becoming the Cyclones' primetime. They went on an 11-0 run to start that quarter and led by as much as 20 points before the ultimate 64-47 victory.

Deniza Fuentes led in scoring for the third consecutive game with 15 points, but Robin Stevenson matched with 15 of her own along with 13 rebounds and four assists. Keyshia Armstrong added 14 points and seven rebounds. Andrea Robertson grabbed 13 rebounds and added four blocks. Colleen Zarembski had 10 rebounds this game.

The Cyclones played their best game of the season on Nov. 11 against Jackson College, however, they lost 77-62.

This game was much closer than the final score. Moraine Valley was down by single digits for most of the game but just could not get over the hump. They were down by five after the first quarter and down 12 at the half. In the fourth quarter, the Cyclones came within two points before the Jets went on an 11-0 run to put the game away.

Armstrong led in scoring with 14 points, nine assists and four steals. Fuentes contributed 11 points. Robertson had a double-double this game with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
