Second quarter setback

Second quarter setback

One slow quarter was the culprit in the Cyclones' narrow 86-81 defeat at the hands of Rock Valley College.

Moraine Valley started with a lead in the first quarter, ahead 19-12 with two minutes to go. It was the nine-point second quarter that really hurt the Cyclones, leaving them with a 34-29 deficit at halftime. Leading scorer, Katchie Savic, only had four points by that time. Both teams, however, scored 52 points in the second half alone, with the Golden Eagles going 34-of-42 from the free-throw line. Coupled with the Cyclones' defensive woes against the dribble penetration throughout the game, it resulted in the loss.

Savic eventually ended with 29 points, surging in the second half, along with six assists. Steffi Manthey saw a career high 17 points with five rebounds. Bashirah Muhammad added 10 points and three steals. Kirsten Kamholz led with eight rebounds.
