Cyclones overwhelm Panthers

Cyclones overwhelm Panthers

The Cyclones scored 41 runs in their doubleheader rout of Morton College.

GAME ONE
A 13-run third inning really pushed the Cyclones ahead of the Panthers for the 23-8 win.

The Cyclones collected six runs in the first inning, including homeruns from Emma Hansen (3-for-6, RBI) and Estelle Loth (3-for-4, 6 RBIs). Stephanie Lohman (3-for-3, 3 RBIs), Millie Redican (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Alexandra Wolcott (1-for-3, RBI) each had RBI singles, however, the Panthers hit a two-run homerun in their first at-bat to cut Moraine Valley's lead 6-2.

Keira Clancy (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) hit an RBI single in the top of the second inning to go up 7-2 but Morton cut that lead with a couple of singles and a Cyclone fielding error to get within three. The next inning pushed that opening out of reach for the Panthers. Four walks, a three-run homerun from Lohman, singles by Redican, Hansen, Clancy, Annabelle Rush (3-for-3, 2 RBIs), Marissa Walsh (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Madelynn Larmon (2-for-4) and a double by Loth saw the Cyclones go up 20-4.

The Cyclones scored the rest of their runs in the next at-bat with RBI singles from Redican and Walsh and a fielding error on a grounder by Wolcott.

Moraine Valley had 23 hits this game and only allowed 10 thanks to the pitching combo of Wolcott and Anastazie Thoma.

GAME TWO
The next game saw the Cyclones collect eight hits and 18 runs in another dominating display of offense.

The Cyclones scored first and were up 5-0 thanks to some walks, fielding errors and a three-run double from Lohman (1-for-1, 4 RBIs). Moraine Valley scored one more in their next at-bat, but the Panthers took a 6-5 lead from a string of hits in the top of the third. That would be the last time they scored. The Cyclones bounced back with a seven- and six-run consecutive inning for the 18-6 victory.

Hits came from Loth (1-for-2, 2B), Clancy (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Larmon (2-for-2), Redican (1-for-3, HR, 4 RBIs) and Jada Astorga (1-for-2, 2B, 2 RBIs). Lohman and Wolcott kept the Panthers offense locked down, allowing just six earned runs and three walks, striking out three, collectively.
